ARESTIN® treatment is a quick and painless way for people who have gum disease to actually help prevent costly gum surgery. Please take the time to visit the new OraPharma Corporate website for patients by clicking here. It is important to treat gum disease as early as possible in order to help prevent permanent damage. Visit www.arestin.com for more information.
People who have active gum disease tend to have inflammation of their gums due to plaque and tartar. This inflammation causes the gums and supporting bone to detach from around the teeth creating enlarged gum pockets. Plaque and tartar get trapped in these enlarged pockets because they are unable to be efficiently accessed by a toothbrush and even conventional instruments in the dental office. The trapped plaque and tartar should be removed to prevent further inflammation and destruction of the gums.
In the past, this was done by surgically opening the gums to gain access to the plaque and tartar. Now we have a quick and painless way to help avoid this. A special antibiotic can be placed directly in the enlarged pockets. This can reduce the inflammation allowing the enlarged pocket to shrink. Following shrinkage of the pockets, the trapped plaque and tartar become easily accessible and can be removed efficiently.
ARESTIN® Product Description
(the science and benefits of ARESTIN® therapy)
Periodontal disease is a serious infection under your gumline.
ARESTIN® (minocycline hydrochloride) is an antibiotic that kills the bacteria that cause the infection.
- It’s placed directly in the infected areas—or “pockets”—in your gums.
- It’s applied right after scaling and root planing, the dental procedure that disrupts stubborn plaque and bacteria below your gumline—where brushing and flossing can’t reach.
ARESTIN® starts working quickly, right at the source of infection, and keeps fighting bacteria long after you leave the dental office.1,2
ARESTIN® fights infection and inflammation for 30 days,2 and provides significantly better results than SRP alone for up to 90 days.3
